When I step on
the sand the first thing that strikes me is the sun, shining like a precious
diamond, and the reflection of sunbeams over the mild sea, forming an awesome
sun-path. The transparent sea is safe and calm, with a gradually sloping
bottom, enabling even small children to safely splash about in the water.
Tiny grains of sand tickle my feet, and make me laugh. The beach is a place
where dreams meet reality, a peaceful green oasis, where you can find all
the beauties of nature
From early
spring till late autumn, the air carries the fragrance of sea and forest.
The bay is open to the northern winds, making it a heaven for water sports
- yachting, surfing, water-skiing. I can hear the powerful motors of speedboats
and jets, see all these people surfing the crests of waves, and I wish
I could jump in the water and join them in their battle with nature.
Then I hear
noise from several kids, reminding me of a bird singing. They build enormous
sandcastles near the sea and fight like soldiers around them. And behind,
like a large audience in an ancient theatre, sit all the people, who have
come to enjoy the sunny day. Their skin is brown from the scorching sunbeams,
except of those who come from northern countries. They are the funniest
to view, because they are not used to the hot sun, their skin burns and
they look like crabs in a frying pan. Despite these accidents everybody
enjoys the afternoon. Some eat ice cream and play cards, some look after
their kids, others just lay on towels and relax from tense and hectic daily
life. They look like an immutable part of this miracle of nature.
Soon
I realize that I can’t stand the burning sand under my feet anymore, so
I make my way to the snack bar “Dune”, which is near the road,
behind the beach. I buy a beer and traditional fish called “tzaca”. I sit
in a straw-chair, eat the salty fish and slake my thirst with the icy larger.
Then one of the best DJs in Bulgaria-Kris plays Ricky Martin’s fresh summer
hit: “Living a crazy life” and it sounds a little funny and out of place
on this calm and tranquil atmosphere. But nobody seems to pay attention
to the music; people are so bewitched by this place that it looks like
nothing can wake them up from this state of pleasure. Even lifeguards are
engrossed by the marvelous view. They stand static, and their stiff bodies
remind me of the wax statues in Madam Tuesso ’s museum.
I
wish time could stop and this day last forever. The beach is really an
enchanting place, where man’s creations are in harmony with nature. Once
you’ve been there, you can never forget it; it’s a place that makes you
come back.
