Current Sixth Grade Science Unit

Current Sixth Grade Unit Project

We will spend the first half of the year focusing on skills practice and physical science topics. The second half of the year will concentrate on earth science and writing a formal experimental paper. The units include:

  1. Metric measurement and Using the Microscope
  2. Electricity
  3. Motion, Forces, and Energy
  4. Density and Convection
  5. Plate Tectonics, Earthquakes, and Volcanoes
  6. Rocks and Minerals
  7. The Earth's Changing Surface
  8. Writing a formal experimental paper

We will do a lot of really cool things this year in science. This will include (but isn't limited to!) building electrical circuits and the components of circuits, building marble rollercoasters, modeling convection currents and applying this knowledge to wind and water, modeling the formation of the different types of rocks, simulating rivers and earthquakes, and performing experiments of our own choosing.
