I like to read books - especially the good ones. Of course, no book can even light a candle to the true Good Book (the Bible), but in the context of this site I will be mainly referring to books and writings that deal with the treasures found within the Bible, written by great Christians of the past and present.
I feel that there is a need within the church today, for Christians of all walks of life, and of every denomination to return to the great writings of the Christians of our past who held so strongly to the beliefs that burned bright in the hearts of the reformers that not only did they search incessantly the depths of the wonders of God's Word, but that these truths caused them to also live their lives as true living sacrifices to the Lord. The primary purpose of this site lies in the hope that not only will you read, but that your life will also be changed as a result.
It seems that the church today is content in remaining ignorant of the blessings of God that He has revealed to us in His Word, and wishes to have no part in the beauty of the doctrines of the wondrous grace of God. Instead of being set apart from the world, the church seems to be trying its hardest to become like the world. In some cases, the "church" has become so worldly, that it is in direct contradiction to what the true church is supposed to be like. Instead of the church being a holy place, it has become a circus; where God is to be revered, He is mocked; where worship is to bring glory to a holy and awesome God, it has become entertainment to a bored audience; where the Word of God is to be exposited with the intent of revealing Christ and His glorious cross, the pulpit is now a platform to preach politics and self-esteem, while at the same time, telling jokes to keep the bored audience from falling asleep in the pews; where prayer is to be the life-source to the Christian, in that he takes part in close communion with his God, prayer is merely a vehicle in which God is ordered around like a cosmic genie. The church seems to have lost its way in these and other areas, and instead of looking forward to "church-growth" programs and so-called "revivals", we should seek God for a reformation of the church today. I also want to add, that I don't want it to seem that everything is so bleak - there are fine Christians out there, holding to good Christian doctrine, going to healthy churches - so please don't become depressed; there is a lot to praise God about. That's why I started this web page, to put together something that has blessed me.
It seems today reading, in general, has become a thing of the past. Reading is too much work, we need to be spoon-fed, so the TV has taken the place of books, while at the same time turning our minds to mush. We need to resolve to not be lazy, and be determined to discipline ourselves to read books, especially the good ones. Remember - Readers are Leaders. Start slowly. You don't have to read six books a week, like Charles Spurgeon, but see if you can spend your leisure time with a book instead of a remote control. Martyn Lloyd-Jones used to read books for relaxation. And when he got tired and needed to relax his mind from a certain text, his philosophy was not to stop reading, but to "read something different."
My desire here is to provide information on good books that have been written, which no Christian should be without and also links to books and writings found on the net that are also in desperate need to be read. If I am unable to find a link to a certain writing, I will also make an effort to type out the text for your reading enjoyment. Also, be careful to read in the light of God's Word (Acts 17:11). The words of men are not perfect, but the Word of God is.
So now, I leave the rest to you, O reader. Take up some good books and read.
