12-27-97With the popularity of the Adam Sandler "Hanukkah Song" (both versions) and after listening to KCXX 103.9 (Inland Empire, CA), I have a small fear that people are going to start to think that it is possible to be half Jewish. Adam Sandler said that Paul Newman and Goldie Hawn were half Jewish and also that Lenny Kravitz is half Jewish. RollingStone.com published a large list of people who are Jewish and even they said that certain people were half or a quarter Jewish.
To set the record straight, it is IMPOSSIBLE to be half, or a quarter, or an eighth Jewish or any other religion! A religion is not a race, creed, or genetic background. A religion is a way of life which the believer has accepted and supports. You can not "half-believe" in something. You may be extremely religious or you might be confused and trying to decide if you believe in a certain faith, but you can not be half this and half that. When it comes to a belief system, you are all or nothing. The third possibility is that you believe in a culmination of ideals and principals that you live your life by and that is cool too.
