Sachverstand2 @ Geocities.com:Howto read ps files under windoze 95
advantage: after treating, you can read ps file. disadvantages: all pictures, tables, indexes etc. vanish. ps files come with the real text closed into brackets, like this: lksjdhf(real)o(text)g(clo)t(sed)z(in)o(bracke)g(ts.) You see that sometimes words are torn apart. You also see that the words usually are separated by other )x( combinations than the word-separating )y(. So the trick is 1 first smash all )x( to put all words together. This is easy done by simply replacing them by nothing. 2 Throw away all (, ), and the text in between ) and (. This is the hard task. Use the following trick: 2a Set the beginnings of the real words to a new line, by replacing all "(" with "(^a" in Winword. 2b Set all ends of real words on the end of a new line, by replacing all ")" with "^a)" in Winword. 2c Define all paragraphs which contain ( or ) as Layout Useless. (If it does not exist, create it, or use some other.) 2d Throw away all paragraphs with Layout Useless. 2e Replace all ^a by " " (Space). 2f To have any paragraphs, you can replace all ". " (period + space) by ". ^a" (period + space + paragraph). 2g \014 stands for ligated f+i. Word can do no ligations, so better replace "\014" by "fi". Tips and Tricks A Break down your PS file in Parts of max. 50 kByte, or get grey hair while you are waiting for Winword. B Save after each step into another file, f.e. *.PT1, *.PU1, etc. C Process the Parts *.PS2, *.PS3, etc., while you are reading *.PS1 D Write a macro which does the job for you.
