CAT Tracks for March 9, 1999
Spring Retreat, Elections, Etc.

RETREAT REMINDER:

The Early Registration period for the 2nd Annual Region 2 Retreat ends this week! After Friday, the fee will increase to $15. Send your completed registration form to Ron Newell at CHS or directly to the address printed on the form. Be sure to enclose payment of $10. YES...I do know that the Retreat is during our Spring Break period...the Saturday before school resumes. What better way to ease back into the routine! And for those of you who always get bored during our vacations, (Yes, you strange--oops, I meant to say highly professional, dedicated--people do exist!) this gives you an opportunity to spend some quality time with your peers in the education field. So...do not delay...act today!

ELECTIONS I

Tomorrow is election day for Regional Council Chair/Vice-Chair. The Regional Council is the group that meets in Marion on the first Wednesday of the month to discuss/decide union issues. It coordinates information and support services between the IEA and the locals. The CAT has been attending these meetings on a regular basis for the past 3 years after a lengthy absence. The election is a "no-brainer"--there is one cadidate listed and you are to vote for one. (There IS space for write-in candidates.) The candidates running this year are the incumbents. I know we often wonder "What's the point?", but the elections are required by federal law. So please give us your usual cooperation. Thank you in advance for your patience!

ELECTIONS II

In May, it will be time once again to elect our local officers. If any of you are interested in running this year, PLEASE notify one of the current officers/building representatives! Those individuals are: Ledora Beard, Deborah Hammel, Ron Newell, Karla Patton, and Jackie Phillips. Feel free to challenge any of the incumbents. I believe that they would second my motion to paraphrase the old comedian's line: "Take my position--PLEASE!"

NEW CERTIFICATION STANDARDS

Superintendent Isom sent me a copy of the latest bulletin from the Illinois State Board of Education concerning new certification procedures. They are still obviously a "work in progress", but this information clearly indicates the direction that the ISBE is headed. I am passing along a partial copy--FYI. As more information is forthcoming, you will be notified. NOTE: The new beginning date has been pushed back to July 1, 1999. As always, stay tuned!
