CAT Tracks for April 26, 2005
UPDATE ON RECERTIFICATION |
The CeRTS workshop for teachers whose certificates expire on June 30, 2005, was held at the Cairo CEC on April 26, 2005. Teachers who attended were able to input professional development activities for submission to ROE as required by law. Several did so...what about you?
If your certificate expires on June 30th of this year, the DEADLINE for submission WAS March 1, 2005!
Yep...two months ago!
Don't panic...there is NO PENALTY for missing the deadline...as evidenced by the fact that the CeRTS workshop was not conducted until April 26th. BUT...it IS time to get busy! According to reports...once you submit your professional development activities, it takes a couple of months for verification and issuance of the new certificate. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but SCHOOL STARTS IN LESS THAN 4 MONTHS!
You have been warned...repeatedly...that the recertification process did NOT go away. Changes have been made, but the bottom line is still the same...you must complete the required number of CPDU's during your 5-year period or face the distinct possibility of losing your certifcation to teach!
(One clarification...IFyou held an advanced degree - e.g. Masters Degree - prior to the beginning of your 5-year recertification period, you only have to complete 80 CPDUs. If not, you are held to the 120 CPDU standard. In BOTH cases, 20% of your CPDUs must be in Special Education - 50% for Special Education teachers. The latter was due to a federal court decision known as "Corey H".)
So...what are you waiting for?
In order to recertify, you must use:
CeRTS (Certificate Renewal Tracking System) or
ISBE Form 73-97 (Initial to Standard/Master Teaching Certificates) or
ISBE Form 73-98 (Renewal of Standard/Master Certificates).
Upon completion, you must submit ISBE Form 73-10 (Certificate Registration Form) and make payment of $25 for the Standard Certificate or $50 for the Master Certificate.
NOTE: For further information, consult the March 30th edition of CAT Tracks or go directly to the ISBE website. There are specific links for "newbies" (Initial to Standard/Master Teaching Certificates) and "experienced teachers" (Renewal of Standard/Master Certificates).
Do not delay...do this today!
