CAT Tracks for September 26, 2005
CAT-IEA-NEA MEMBERSHIP |
In the old Steve Martin movie, The Jerk, Steve's character, Nathan, (raised a poor, rural black child and recently moved to Los Angeles) literally jumps for joy, shouting repeatedly "The new phone books are in...the new phone books are in!" after the daily mail delivery. Following this outburst, he frantically flips the pages until arriving at his own name...Nathan R. Johnson. Nathan then proudly proclaims: "I am somebody!" Then the scene shifts to some nut with a rifle who randomly opens said phone book and picks a name...yep...Nathan R. Johnson. The nut then "hunts down" unsuspecting Nathan and starts shooting at him.
I am reminded of that scene every year when the new Cairo phone "book" arrives...which was last week.
Uh...Ron...it's 3:21 a.m. on a school night. Have you finally lost it? What's this got to do with the CAT...or ANYTHING for that matter?
Hey, important stuff to announce...
The new Association membership cards are in...the new Association membership cards are in!
Okay, you had to be there...
Anyway...the cards are in and will be distributed this week. (Newbies: Your membership card will arrive later. These cards were run based upon last year's membership. Your membership forms HAVE been sent in and are "in the pipeline." Be patient...you, too, will be somebody...SOON!)
Along with the membership card, you should receive a copy of a letter that explains how you can save money with your CAT-IEA-NEA membership. (That letter is reproduced below for your convenience.)
If you are a "coupon clipper" type person, you have the opportunity to get back some of the money that you invested in Association membership. (I've always been skeptical of coupons, because you often end up purchasing stuff that is more expensive - even with the coupon - than what you normally purchase. BUT - at least check out the businesses listed. IF you already patronize their products, take advantage of this opportunity to save money!)
Not a coupon clipper? Well, that's understandable...since you are one of those overpaid, underworked school teachers...that doesn't care about kids! Well, here's how you can "have your cake and eat it too." Activate your membership card, save $$$, and use THOSE dollars to pay for all the school materials that you buy for your students and classroom all year. Who knows, you might even save enough money to buy gas so that you can get to work for the rest of the year!!!
POSTSCRIPT: Rebecca Stumpf will be visiting the attendance centers this coming Thursday, September 29th. Rebecca is with NEA Auto and Home Insurance, managed by California Casualty. They are the IEA-NEA endorsed Members Auto and Home Insurance Carrier. Rebecca is scheduled to be in the faculty lounge on Thursday as follows: Cairo Jr/Sr High School - before school starts, Bennett Elementary – during lunch, and Emerson Elementary – after school. The purpose of these visits will be to distribute information and answer questions about the program.
Rebecca knows you are busy folks and promised NOT to be "intrusive". To quote from her e-mail:
Incidentally...Rebecca's visit HAS been cleared with the principals by Superintendent Whitledge. You ARE to be allowed to visit with her. I made sure to do this because it was embarrassing when teachers were not allowed to attend the District's Resource Fair during the first week of school...when so much planning had gone into the event.
