CAT Tracks for October 24, 2008
LIKE A ROLLING STONE

Time, time, time is on my side...yes it is!

As you purveyors of julieanewell.com are well aware...I've got the music in me.

And it just has to come out!!!

As we arrive at TGIF, I felt that my former "sheep" could use a little pick-me-up...

First of all, I want to revisit a NOT so "up beat" album..."Life, Death, Love, and Freedom" by John Mellencamp (aka John Cougar Mellencamp) of "Pink Houses" fame. It's truly a dreary album, but THAT is where those of us who labor in CSD #1 often find consolation.

In fact, on this album, I found evidence that John Mellencamp may have met our current administration...

John Mellencamp
Album - Life Death Love And Freedom
Song - "Mean"

I'm not following your frame of mind
Complaining about Cairo all the time
Surely something good here as the world spins by
Could you please stop being so mean

This will never work out that's what you say
It's the end of the world again yesterday
When I see you coming at me I'm gonna walk away
You need to stop being so mean

Your outlook is haunting us all
Like the ghost of our lost town at the dark end of the hall
If you can't say nothing good then don't say nothing at all
And you need to stop being so mean

Your road seems so narrow to me
You're a big boat up the river blowing off steam
My head is spinning from your company
Could you please stop being so mean

I'm not following your frame of mind
Complaining about this district all the time
Surely something good here as the world spins by
Could you please just stop being so mean

Okay...I admit...I changed five words in the lyrics, substituting "Cairo" for "this life" in the first stanza, "lost town" for "love down" in the third stanza, and "district" for "life" in the final stanza. Yes, I guess we would say us Cairo school district folks have lost the "love"...

Okay...enough of the negative!

It's time to either "kick it up a notch" or "mellow out"...choose your own poison.

Remember Bob Dylan?

No?

Well, you are either too young...or you were too involved, if you know (remember?) what I mean! Hey...Google Bob Dylan if necessary.

I remember Bob Dylan...

In fact, one of his songs is one of my earliest memories of Julie Jones...but THAT is for another time...on another Web site. (I might add that the former Julie Jones was looking over my shoulder while I composed this entry and...she "approved this message".)

However, my song selection for today is the one I'm hoppin' and boppin' to at this very moment of typing..."Rainy Day Women #12 & 35", better known as "Everybody Must Get Stoned".

As we drag toward the weekend, I'd like to put a little pep in your step by altering a few lyrics while retaining the catchy tune. For those of you who remember the tune...get to it. For those of you who don't...find it, play it, and return to the new and improved lyrics. (Hey, maybe one of the old, uh, veteran teachers can hum a couple of bars for ya!)

As they say..."Laughter is the Best Medicine!"

(Borrowed from) Bob Dylan
Everybody Will Get Swoped

Well, they値l swope you when you池e driving to your school
They値l swope you tryin' to make you seem the fool
They'll swope you if you say that you're a CAT
They'll swope you if you question this or that
But, I would not feel so all alone
Everybody will get swoped

Well, they値l swope you when you池e walking down the hall
They値l swope you when they put you on all call
They値l swope you when you池e walking on the floor
They値l swope you when you池e walking through the door
But, I would not feel so all alone
Everybody will get swoped

Well, they値l swope you when you are young and able
They値l swope you when you are old and feeble
They値l swope you when you池e trying to make a buck
They値l swope you 'til you don't give a hockey puck
But, I would not feel so all alone
Everybody will get swoped

Well they値l swope you when you get evaluated
Then, they値l swope you until you feel subjugated
They値l swope you when you池e riding in your car
They値l swope you while forgetting in a bar
Yes, but I would not feel so all alone
Everybody will get swoped

Well, they値l swope you when you're driving home
They値l swope you when you池e all alone
They値l swope you when you slowly drift away
They値l swope you when you rise for a new day
But, I would not feel so all alone
Everybody will get swoped
