CAIRO BOE ELECTION...APRIL 7TH |
You know the old saying, "Curiosity killed the cat..."
Well, always have lived on the edge...no use going all "scaredy cat" now!
Thought I'd drop by the Central Office and pick up a packet for the school board election that was advertised in The Cairo Citizen...see what all one had to do...if one were so inclined.
Mainly, I wanted to confirm a couple of questions that no one ever seems to know the answer to and never seems to seek out.
Namely, there are four (4) seats up for election...out of seven. The BOE members whose terms expire this Spring are Danny Brown, Brenda Gooden, Carlandus Mallory, and Bobby Mayberry (who was appointed to fill the final two years of the seat vacated by Joe Griggs.) All of those individuals can file and run again if they so desire. There are NO "term limits" on school board seats.
If a person is interested, he/she should pick up an official petition packet at the Central Office. I have reproduced the material below for information purposes only. Do NOT attempt to print them off and use them...they would NOT be accepted. (To discourage such, I placed "VOID" stickers on the documents that would be filed. I don't want to get into trouble for subverting the process! Hopefully, when the District's new Web site gets off the ground, "transparency" of operations will become the norm.)
For those of you who think this would be a good job for a bored old CAT - specifically THIS old CAT - who says I'm bored???
Let me make my position purrfectly clear!
To quote a line from one of my favorite John Wayne movies (McLintock!), "I won't, I won't..."
