WINDFALL PROFITS

It bears repeating...

...since Cairo School District Officials seem to be in denial.

When a school district has $3.3 million dollars sitting in a bank down on 8th and Washington in Cairo...

When a school district is notified very publicly that it is getting (has gotten) another $500,000 of federal stimulus funds to add to the "kitty"...

Well, it just makes you go hmmm...

Cairo School District Number One has four employee unions. The contracts for all four of these employee unions expired on July 1, 2008...over 9 months ago.

Cairo School District Number One officials are still singing that same old tune..."How broke we are, how broke are, nobody knows how broke we are.")

Cairo School District Number One is, conservatively speaking, a million dollars better off today than it was in 2005...when it gave all four of its employee unions a 4% raise. Since then...and into the future, many "high-priced" employees have retired, replaced by cheaper "newbie" employees. Funding from the great state of Illinois has increased every year. Now, the federal government has stepped in with its largess.

Yet, Cairo School District Number One officials keep singing that same old tune..."How broke we are..."

ATTENTION: CSD #1 Officials...

Did you read The Cairo Citizen this week?

The article was on the front page...bottom left corner...conveniently located for your perusal...right below the BOE election results!

If you still missed it, here 'tis...

I don't know about all y'all, but I think it's time for the ostrich to pull its head out of the sand and quit exposing its dominant feature.

It's hanging out there for all to see...
