PLACE: All Over India
- Sergeant Harry (102Kb),
This is my Grandfather, Harry Hurst in the uniform of a Queen's Own
Cameron Highlander. Taken by a professional photographer in the Kolar
Gold Fields on 18 February 1912, this photograph is a complete mystery
since according to the Camerons' records, he never even signed up with
them.
- Parade, Bombay (112Kb),
Here is the same Harry Hurst (Bombay City Police ; left-foreground), 24
years later, accompanying Sir Frederick Sykes, Governor of Bombay, on a
Military Inspection.
- Supt Harry Hurst, Bombay City CID, (my Grandfather) standing to the left

Some of the Cathedral choirboys, Bombay 1920s. Standing
in the middle row, far right and just behind him, are two of
my uncles. Does anyone recognise the adults or other boys?
-
One of the same uncles (front, right, with ukelele) several
years later at an unidentified camp-site and yet another of these
numerous uncles seated in the middle (left hand on hat). Standing with
arms folded is Derick Soggee, a close friend of the family who died
during WW2 (10 Squadron, RAF).
-
Three little maids : my mother, Joy Hurst (right), her
sister Dorothy (left), and friend Nellie (centre) in the
garden of Aunt Fanny Walk at Panchgani, 1931. I have
never established who Aunt Fanny Walk was and would
be delighted if anyone could throw light on the mystery.

Far left : my Grandfather, Harry Hurst ; next to him, my
Aunt Kitty ; 2nd and 3rd from left, my mother (in pram) and Grandmother
; 4th from left with tennis racquet, another of
my uncles. One or two of the other people occur in several photographs,
but I don't know who they are.
Photo Below : Still part of the Police Station but the one-time
tennis court is now a car park. Photograph, 1999, by
Duncan Gilmour.
- A dance in Bombay during the 1930s. Perhaps someone with Bombay connections
will recognise some of the people there. The size of this file is around 200K please be advised!!
- Eric Warren - "Bunny" - Jenkins (seated) and his brother
(?). Probably taken in Allahabad or Calcutta during the 1920s. Bunny
Jenkins was descended from Jordans and Jaspers on his mother's side and
was a pupil at one of the St Xavier's schools, probably at Allahabad.
