The most commonly used method for laying out the cards is the Celtic Cross. There are many reasons for this. Not only is the Celtic Cross an outstanding all-purpose method for a reading, but it is the best spread to use if you want to know the ins and outs of a question from every angle.
Ten cards are laid out in the form of a cross and a staff. The cross represents the earth plane and the staff represents a connection to heaven. The two are laid out next to one another showing heaven and earth in communion. This spread can be used for any question when you want to know the spiritual implications of the issue at hand.

| There are many different kinds of tarot spreads that will be specific to the type of reading you wish to do. You can also make up your own spreads specifically tailored for your situation. The Celtic Cross, however, is still the most frequently used spread, because of the great amount of insight it shows for any situation.
