Friday Morning July 11, 2003 Corrie started painful contractions, but they were very irregular. At 8 PM, the contractions intensified and started coming every 3 to 5 minutes. We left for the hospital and she was admitted at 11 PM. After being checked she was 5 centimeters, 90% thinned and the baby was at 0 station. After having gone to the hospital three other times with Preterm Labor and one false alarm, this was final the real thing. Our birthing Plan said we were going to have an all natural baby (That means no drugs to help with pain.)
As the night/morning went on, Corrie was progressing at about 1 centimeter every 2 hours. By 6 AM, Corrie was having some severe pain and had reached “almost” 9 centimeters. Around 9 AM Corrie’s water broke, and then the real pain started. From this point on, she had to really focus to be able to stand the pain. (Still no drugs for Corrie, although I was asking for some for myself.)
At 12 PM, the doctor pulled me aside and asked us to reconsider our options. Corrie and been pushing for almost 3 hours and she was absolutely exhausted and the baby was not progressing at all. The doctor told me that in 1 more hour, if Corrie had not progressed, she was going to give her a C-Section. She suggested that we get an epidural now, because she would have to have one in one hour no matter what. So we decided that was best as well and Corrie got the epidural at 1 PM At 1:45 the decision was made to have a C-Section. We had been praying that we could have a vaginal birth, but we were also praying that God would help us make the right decision. He did!
