Space Planes
These three NASA test planes from the 60's and 70's were aerodynamic prototypes for designs eventually used in the space shuttle. I like them for their aesthetic qualities. Since they have no wings they must use their entire bodies for lift. Because of this they are refered to as "Lifting Bodies".

Recently, NASA began work on two new space planes based on the lifting body design. The X-33 is a prototype for the Venture Star program, and the X-38 will be the crew return vehicle for the International Space Station.
