Unrequited Love

Oh how to deal
With unrequited love
The kind you want to keep
Near to your heart
And hold it there
So close

But like the caged bird
Love cannot be held
No matter how treasured
For love has no form
Or substance
It cannot be owned

So what do you do
When you need that love
Which lies so close
But kept afar

No choice have we
But to take it in clasped hands
Kiss it softly on feathered head
And release it
With a helping toss
Onto the wayward wind
And watch it fly
To whereever it may go
And watch, and wish
And love it all the more
