Romans 5:12-21
1 Corinthians 15:42-58
"Then as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all men, so
one man's act of righteousness leads to aquittal and life for all men
(Romans 5:18)."
Some people still think we are being punished for the sins of Adam. They think it's "unfair that the sins of the father are visited upon the son(a reference Ezekiel 18)" in such a way.
It seems to make sense. The phenomenon of death doesn't seem to have left us. It seems we are still facing that problem.
But there are two things that contradict the idea of us still being punished for Adam's sins. The first is that Ezekiel 18:19 tells us that if a person follows the commandments, they won't be cursed. Secondly, according to Romans 5, since one man, Adam, caused this mess to begin with, one man, Jesus, provided the solution by dying for Adam's and everyone else's sins.
Still, people die. Why is this? Because we are dust. 1 Corinthians 15:42-58 tells us that there is a resurrection. Some of us will die, `sown' into the ground like a seed, but we will be raised imperishable. We will be remade into the image of Jesus, the man of heaven. The perishable doesn't inherit the imperishable, so some of our perishable bodies must perish. "You foolish man! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies(1 Corinthians 15:36). (This means that the seed is put into the earth, not necessarily that the plant itself always dies).
But since there is a resurrection, Adam's curse of death has ended. At the last trumpet, we will be remade, "reformatted(our bodies `rewritten' to be like the perfected Christ, our brains will be cured of disorders, but our minds will not be erased)", to imperishable beings. When that happens, Adam's curse will be completely lifted forever, and we will enjoy God's new heaven and earth.
Dear Father in heaven, thank you for giving us Jesus to eliminate
the curse of Adam, and the curses of our individual sins. (Let it
be so.)
