Luke 16:19-31
Revelation 20:7-10

"And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you would not be able, and none may cross from there to us(Luke 16:26)."

There are a lot of misconceptions about hell and demons in movies and other media. One such misconception I believed in for a long time. But the idea came from the creators of the X-Men. I'm referring to the two characters, Nightcrawler and Magik. According to the people who invented them, Nightcrawler can teleport through hell. This is implied through the comic when people mention the smell of brimstone. Magik also appears to teleport through hell. It's called limbo, but it bore a resemblance to hell.
In Luke's gospel, we see that this idea is impossible. To believe such a thing is possible would be to undermine our desperate need for the salvation of Christ. According to this parable, Lazarus is unable to go back to earth. God said that he wouldn't be believed if he did come back from the dead. Lazarus is also unable to go to heaven, and no one is able to come down to where he is. Clearly, if Nightcrawler was dead, he wouldn't be able to resurface from hell. And if he supposedly was alive and trying to teleport through hell, it would also be impossible. There is no portal through hell.
There was only one portal through hell, and it was Christ. Now that he has risen, no one can be saved that way again. While we're here on earth, we can either believe in Christ or be condemned. There can be no chance of redemption like in the stories of Brimstone and Spawn. Once a person goes to hell, they must suffer there forever.
And finally, demonic activity isn't like it is in the movies. Demons aren't in hell right now. That makes things much scarier. They are living on this earth, and walking about in it(Job 1:7). Luke 10:18 says that Satan was kicked out of heaven, so he's still wandering around the earth. And mostly, they aren't those ugly things with the horns, either.
2 Corinthians 11: 14 says that Satan appears to be beautiful. Most of the horned creatures you see are images taken from Greek mythology. So, next time you see a scary movie like that, don't believe it. As it says in Genesis 3:1, the serpent, or Satan, is craftier than any other wild creature that the Lord God made.

Dear Father in heaven, I thank you for sacrificing your son, Jesus Christ, to save us from the power of hell. Lord, sometimes we may believe what we see in the movies and in the media, especially when it comes to spiritual matters. But many times, these movies and other things do not tell us the scriptural truth. Help us to have the ability to discern between these stories of fantasy and the absolute truth of your word. Protect us from all demonic forces, and give us the knowledge and wisdom to use the spiritual tools you have given us to resist the evil one. Amen.
