PRAISE AND WORSHIP

Psalms 100:4  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise:  Be thankful unto him and Bless His Name.

John 4:24  God is a Spirit:  and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

PURPOSE:
1.  To gain an understanding of the difference between praise and worship.

2.  To understand the place and the power of praise and worship in the life of the believer.

3.  To realize the power of praise and worship as weapons of spiritual warfare.

1.  What is praise and worship?

a.  Praise:  Hebrew word "Halal" is the source of our word "Hallelujah" means to praise, celebrate, glory, sing (praise), boast.  Greek: epainos - to commend, to commend the worth, to express approval or admiration.

b.  We are told to praise or worship 555 times.  No other exhortation or instruction is as prevalent.

c.  Worship:  Hebrew word- shachah:  to worship, prostrate oneself, bow down.  The act of bowing down being used to recognize a superior ruler.  Greek: proskuneo:  to kiss towards.  An act of homage or reverence.

2.  What is the difference between praise and worship?

 a.  Praise:
  1.  Precedes worship

  2.  Binds the enemy   Psalms 149:8-9

  3.  Centers on what God is doing or has done.

 b.  Worship:
  1.  Worship centers on the character and attributes of God Himself.

2.  Involves total commitment and release of the Spirit, Soul and the Body.

3.  Worship is not pure by method but rather by motivation.  Matt 5:8 says: "Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God.

4.  The quality and depth of worship develops with the quality and depth of spiritual maturity (Godliness) in the believer.

 c.  Holy Spirit never embarrasses.

 d. ONLY YOU AND GOD KNOW IF YOU ARE PRAISING AND/OR   WORSHIPPING.

3.  Motivation for the believer.
