In 1996, The AMC appointed a Life Member/Lapsed Member committee under the chairmanship of Tony Jackowski, then AMC Second Vice Chairman, to study both the currency and completeness of the Life Member rolls and to examine, once again, the reasons why members left Mensa. According to Tony Jackowski, "Shortly after becoming 2nd Vice-Chairman I was given the tasks of researching and evaluating our procedures for contacting lapsed members, and the life member mailing conducted in 1994. These tasks were delegated to me by Chairman Dave Remine because little or no statistics were available regarding either of these activities, and the AMC had no idea of the effectiveness of these programs. My goal was to finalize the task begun with the full life member mailing and lapsed member contacts, provide the numbers, and make recommendations. In 1994, then Treasurer Mr. T. Warren Hardy, conducted a survey of our life members using prepaid postcards, for the purpose of correcting any misinformation in AML's database, and verifying the status of those members (still with us or passed away). This survey met with great success in terms of surveys returned, and many records were updated. However, as with any survey, not all were returned completed, and many were returned by the post office as being undeliverable as addressed. It was to these specific life members (the no-shows and undeliverables), that the current life member survey was directed." I have presented the reports of the Life Member/Lapsed Member committee as faithfully to their original formats as possible in a different medium. Although I corrected some obvious typographical errors along the way and added a bit of HTML formatting for ease of reading on a computer screen, I did not attempt to edit them in any way. --Dick |
