1963 or 2003 HOW Far Has the Black Community come?? Commentary by Markus Rice 02/03

Being that it is Black history month and Listening to the speaches of empowerment and and what needs to be done to up lift Black Americans in 1963 still holds true for 2003. It seems to me (and this is only my opinion) not much has changed. We still are chanting the same Rah Rah but nothing really gets done. true some black Americans have flourished but most are still stuck in the the zone of poverty. Being left behind . Who's really is to blame is what the question is. Living in NYC has shown me that it is not really what the color of your skin. So many people are immagrating from the African continent and the Caribbean and they seem to be able to build businesses and get an education. THEY ARE BLACK and most don't even speak english !! But yet they have... Stores , restaurants and a working economy. so that crutch of being black can not be used anymore. What's the deal?????? Work ethic, education, and most of all uniting as a group to bring our community together. Black American are being left behind in an alarming rate. We are letting ourselves be walked all over. We are slowly losing our communities that have been black be taken over. Harlem , Ft. Greene, Bed Sty are now falling victims to gentrification. Skyrocketing rents are driving our people farther out of site to areas that can be hidden and forgotten about to live in despair and deeper poverty. So come on folks wake up and get it together already because this class war is going to be lost in a big way. Fight back with, spending time teaching your kids, Manners, respect and how to speak correctly Teach them the A,B,C's and the 1,2,3's history, current events and how to get places in society. We know the school system is not going to do it!!! Teaching hard work ethics will pay off , true its starts out as not seeming much. But a hard worker worker gets places with drive and sweat. Get off this material Bull Sh*t, Bling, bling, big trucks are really just not going to happen for the average person. You have to work hard and save to get these things!!!! Start and support black businesses in your community. but most of all come together as one and strides can be made......... We are our worst enemies but also our best and only hope to overcome.
