It was never God's plan that mankind be separated from Him. When He created Adam and Eve they had a true personal relationship with God. They were created in the image of God, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Gen.1:27. They were created as eternal beings, to live in peace and fellowship with God forever as long as they followed his commandment. "And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou shall eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Gen.2:16,17. It was not until they disobeyed Him that sin and death entered into the world. "Wherefore,as by one man(Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned" Rom.5:12. Notice that sin entered through the man Adam, because: "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God." 1 Cor.11:3 "For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man." 1 Cor.11:8. Because God never intended for mankind to live without Him, He already had a plan in place. "And I will put enmity between you" (Satan) "and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed " (Jesus) "He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heal." Gen.3:15 So we see that from the beginning God had a plan to reconcile mankind to Himself. Here we see the promise of the coming Messiah. Sin means being out of the will of God. Anything that we do that God did not intend for us to do is sin. When Adam sinned against God he died spiritually, he was separated from God. Then physical death followed. When we are living in sin we are out of the will of God, therefore we are separating ourselves from Him. That was never His intention, so He gave us a way to be reconciled to Him. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 God has always required a blood sacrifice to atone for sin. The first example of this is in Genesis 3:21 "Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them." God killed an animal and covered them with the skin to cover their nakedness, or sin. When God gave His law to Moses, after He delivered the Jewish people from Egypt, He commanded them to have a day of atonement. Every year the priests had to make a blood sacrifice unto God to cover the sins of the people. "And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year." Lev.16:34 The birth of Jesus to a virgin is a very important thing to understand. As we saw that sin is passed through the man, God's perfect sacrifice had to become flesh without the sin of a man being passed on to Him. He had to be born of flesh, through the woman, but as the Son of God He was placed in Marys' womb by the Holy Spirit. "And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary; for though hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS." Luke 1:30,31. "Then said Mary unto the angel, How shalt this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God." Luke 1:34,35. When Jesus, the Son of God, was killed on the cross, God's perfect sacrifice shed his blood to cover all the sins of the world. "And he(Jesus) said unto them, This is my blood of the New Testament(covenant) which is shed for many." Mark 14:24. "Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him." Acts 5:9. "In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace." Eph. 1:7. "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9. God has provided us with His perfect sacrifice, that was once, forever. The precious blood of Jesus will cover all our sins and wash us clean if we call on Him and believe. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."Rom.10:13. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Rom.10:9,10.
