Y2K The Great Opportunity
Some people are saying the world will end.
Some are saying there will be an unintentional nuclear war.
Some say there will be a world wide economic crash,
causing a great depression.
Others say life will go on as usual and nothing at all will happen.
Who is right and who is wrong? Good question.
The world will definitely not come to an end in
the year 2000. The Bible tells us that there will be a
seven year tribulation period before the second coming of Christ to the earth.
At the end of the seven year tribulation Jesus will come and set up His
earthly kingdom, known as the Millenial Reign. This will
last for 1000 years. As none of this has occurred yet, the world
can not possibly end in the year 2000.
The United States government is taking the threat of an unintentional
nuclear war seriously. The thought behind this is that the computers may
generate a false alert that there are incoming missiles, and launch counter strikes.
The United States and Russia are working together to come up with a system of double checks
so this will not occur. Some people fear that the missiles
will launch themselves, but this is very unlikely.
There is a better chance that they will not launch at all.
Life will probably not go on as usual though.
After talking with power companies, I am convinced there will be
some sort of power outage. Whether wide spread or scattered, for a few days or months,
no one knows. I do not think there is any need for wide spread fear or panic. Remember, God is in charge
and He promised to take care of His people.
"But my God shall provide all your need according to His
riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Phill. 4:19.
I do however think that people should do some preparation.
People in northern climates should have some form of
alternate heat if at all possible. Install a wood stove,
get a generator, or get a kerosene heater, whatever you can afford.
Or make plans to stay with friends or relatives who do have an alternate heat source.
You may want to have a few weeks worth of nonperishable
food and drinking water on hand. If you are financially able,
have some extra for people who aren't prepared.
I believe this will be a great witnessing tool if we can reach out
and show the love of Christ to those who need help, and don't know Him.
Jesus commanded us in John 21:16 "Feed my sheep."
If at all possible have a few extra bibles on hand.
We should all have a few simple things on hand also:
batteries, candles, matches, kerosene lamps, aspirin or tylenol, bandages,
a hand held can opener, a portable radio, etc.
You should also have some cash on hand, not all the money you have
in the world, but enough for a few weeks to a month or so, in case the
banks do have problems and the stores will only accept cash.
Remember, if the power is out the ATM's and credit card machines will not work.
You should also fill your gas tanks before Dec. 31.
If you are taking prescription medication you may want to have
enough to last a month or two. You can always use it.
These are just some common sense precautions.
You can always use these extra things if nothing does go wrong.
Check with your city, town or county agencies to see
if they have a contingency plan in place. Just use common sense. Don't
get into a state of panic over it, just be prepared.
Remember what Paul told us concerning Jesus,"for He hath said, I will never
leave thee, nor forsake thee." Heb. 13:5
