Fairy Faery Faerie Feri
While the seven Guardians of the Feri Circle are generally considered Elemental and related to Directions, ultimately they are neither so narrow nor so focused. I will present them here with their elemental and directional associations, although Feri initiates know that they are not quite so Earth bound. In the legends of the Feri tradition, the Guardians are the Nephilim. We interpret this word to mean Cloud People. They are also sometimes called The Watchers. They came from among the stars where they were born. When humanity was in its infancy the Nephilim blended with us, and their descendents are the Faerie people, our Feri ancestors, the source of the Feri Tradition. The Guardians are usually invoked during the casting of the ritual circle, but are not necessarily invoked during magical work. While for general purposes the Guardians of the East and South are male, and the Guardians of the West and North are female, they, like the human spirit, are ultimately androgynous, not merely male or merely female, but not neuter. Students of Feri spend time working with each individual guardian. The names given here are one set of public names. The Guardians have other secret names. |
