Ideas for Spelling Practice

Jump and spell – Call out a spelling word and have your child spell the word out loud as he/she jumps rope.

Tactile spelling – Fill a shallow box with sand, flour or cornmeal. Trace the spelling word. Pudding and shaving cream is also fun to trace in.

Magnetic spelling – Use magnetic letters to spell words on cookie sheets or even on the refrigerator.

Word search or crossword puzzle for spelling words.

Make pictures with spelling words. Example: Make the outline of a house or airplane by writing spelling words.

Find and circle spelling words in the newspaper or magazines
