The Ashura was observed together with the Malay, Gujrati, Persian
and Urdu speaking shia
muslims all sharing the sorrow of Hazrat Fatima (AS) and crying for
the one that gave the sacrifice of his life and that of his family so that
the religion could be reached to all future generations in its true form.
It was an awesome site for me to see the people reciting nohas in persian,
urdu, malay and english and everyone participating in all the matam, not
understanding the exact words but understanding the message. I was especially
touched by the enthusiasm of Malays.
The elders told me that there were very few shias in singapore and by the grace of Allah and efforts of some people, there has been conversions to shiaism and combined with the expatriate shia community the numbers will easily run into hundreds or thousands now. They also told me that each year the majalis become more and more crowded and InshAllah I am hopeful that the trend will continue and more people will be able to get the religious knowledge through the teachings of the Ahl-e-bait who are the Bab-ul-ilm.
I also wish and pray that may Allah strengthen those who are working
in this direction and reward them in this world and hereafter for their
invaluable services to the deen-e-huq.
