Each week we will discuss an issue concerning youth ministry. As you read the question, think about your feelings and thoughts on the matter and respond with your own suggestion. as you respond, your message will be posted here in the Lounge Talk Den. If you choose, give your name and the ministry you are involved with. As we get to know you, we can begin to encourageand help one another with comments, solutions or things that have worked for you. If you want to raise a question, contact me and I will post it. This weeks question is:

Do youth ministries today try to hard to "imitate" the catchy advertisments used by the world in order to reach the youth culture, and is this creating confusion as to the purpose of the church and youth ministry?

The church today tends to feel as if it was in competion with the world for people. Eventhough this is true to a degree, are we really engaging in outreach the right way ? We have to strive to be the alternative to the world, and the closer we become like the world, the more we become of the world. This creates confusion among the people outside the church, especially the youth culture. We can not compromise truth with commercial doctrine. This is an even larger failure. When I see a T-shirt that says "yo quiero Jesus", I wonder if we have begun to feel as if the gospel is no longer enough. How are you developing your youth program? Is it truth giving and doctrinally sound? Or does it resemble another T.V. commercial as if this were the Super Bowl? Until next time...
