Objectives

    - Enable unobstructed 2 and 3 dimensional particle imaging velocimetry (PIV) and holographic (HPIV) measurements within entire stage of an axial flow turbomachine.

     - Study

          
Unsteady flow phenomena
           Rotor stator interaction
           Secondary flows
           Tip leakage
           Hub vortices

  
- Identify sources of noise and pressure fluctuations

     - Generate data for development in turbulence models:


          
Passage averaged, steady RANS
            Unsteady RANS
            Large eddy simulation

    
- Study the effect of inlet conditions (such as, inflow turbulence level and non-uniformities)

     - Future extentions: Instantaneous velocity fileds condistional upon certain variables such as, wall pressure on blade surface
