Well, God is the same way. He wants people to acknowledge the truth and not go around spouting lies and deception. So he sends us his message of truth.
But what if people just WON'T acknowledge the truth? It won't do to have people who love lies in heaven. What can God do with them? Well, he could either 1) destroy them or 2) banish them to some place of their own but allow them to stay conceited in their lies or 3) FORCE them to see the truth. Number two is rather a defeat for truth, so I think the only options would be #1 or #3. And of those two #3 is a greater victory for truth. And that's what I think hell is. The suffering of its occupants is the suffering of being forced to see the truth while stubbornly hating it (because of your freewill choice to reject it).
That's what I think hell is all about. The victory of truth over lies.
