For this game, you will need a call bell—the sort you find on store counters. I usually have students prepare the questions ahead of time as a homework or classwork assignment. Each student composes twenty review questions, writing each question on an index card with the answer on the other side of the card. You should receive twenty index cards from each student. It helps to go through them before-hand to eliminate repetitive or goofy questions
Once you have the questions:
1. Take an unoccupied student desk from one of the first few rows and place it in the center of the room in front of the teacher’s desk. Place the bell on the student’s desk.
2. Divide the class into two teams. Choose one student from whichever team has more people on it to be score keeper. This student will go to the board and record the scores.
3. The first student from Team 1 and the first student from Team 2 should come up to the front and stand on either side of the student desk with the bell. Using the review questions on the index cards handed in for homework, ask those two students a question. Whoever knows the answer first will ring the bell. If the student is correct, her team gets the chance to answer three more questions. Read three questions from the index cards; anyone on her team who knows the answer can raise her hand to respond.
If the student who hit the bell first gives an incorrect answer, then the other student gets a chance to respond. If she is correct, her team gets the chance to answer three questions. If both of the students at the face-off are incorrect or don’t know the answer, put the question back in the stack, have them sit down, and ask the next two students to come up. Proceed in this manner until you run have asked all of the questions.
-Each correct answer is worth 50 points. No points are deducted for incorrect answers.
-At the end of the period, the team with the most points wins, and will get 3 points extra credit on the next test. |
