JEOPARDY |
MATERIALS NEEDED: |
1) Jeopardy board. An example is provided here. There are five categories listed across the top, and under each category are places for questions worth $100 to $500. You can either draw the board on the blackboard, or make a transparency of it and use the overhead projector.

Procedure: |
1. Divide class into groups. I use two groups, but more groups with fewer students may also be used.
2. Student 1 from Team 1 selects a category and dollar value. Read the "answer" to that item. If the student guesses the question correctly, her team gets the dollar value selected. Have a student keep score on the board. If the student responds incorrectly, no points are deducted.
3. Move on to student 1 from Team 2 and repeat the above procedure.
4. When the first student from each team has had a turn, move to student 2 from Team 1, and proceed in this manner.
5. Two of the items on the jeopardy board should be designated by you as "Daily Doubles". When a student selects an item despignated as a "Daily Double", she can decide how much of her team's money she wishes to wager on her knowledge of the category. The wager can be as low as $100 and as high as all of the team's money. Only the student whose turn it is can respond.
6. When all items in all categories have been exhausted, move on to Final Jeopardy. Reveal the topic for Final Jeopardy, and then let each team decide how much of their money they wish to wager. When each team has recorded their wager, reveal the "answer" to Final Jeopardy, and let the teams discuss amongst themselves what they wish to write as the "question". After 30 seconds, collect the scraps of papaer each team has used to record their wagers and responses for Final Jeopardy. Read them and then tally the scores. The team with the highest dollar value at the end wins. |
