My Favorite Music
My Favorite Music
I used to buy a bunch of tapes and then copy my favorite songs onto compilation tapes. Now I have CDs and it does not work. I found that there were a few albums where I like the whole thing.
These are probably my favorite artists, but not necessarily. I just liked the whole album. Below each is a link to a website devoted to the artist and/or the album.
Chumbawumba - Tubthumping
I am surprised I like the album. I bought it for Tubthumping, my wife (Tamara) listened to it while working out and said it was pretty good. It is upbeat and has a lot of variety. Good for waking up to in the morning or when doing chores. Gets your blood pumping.

Cranberries: Everybody Else Is Doing It So Why Can't We
No Need to Argue
Both of these albums are very good, I prefer the first. It has a dark moody sound I like, but it is a little too depressing for a cold grey rainy morning.

Dave Matthews Band: Under the Table and Dreaming
A great album. It has a unique sound and lots of variety. Good to listen to anytime.

Depeche Mode: Violator
Another dark, moody album, but louder and faster.

Don Henley: The End of the Innocence
An older, thoughtful album. He was great in the Eagles and carried on.

Indigo Girls: Swamp Ophelia
I found out about them when I worked Christmas at a music store. They are very good and deserve a lot more publicity. I wore out this tape and had to buy it as a CD.

The Jesus and Mary Chain: Automatic
Not a religious group. A little known Scottish group. Too loud and fast to be grunge, not angry enough to be punk. Grinding, driving music. I love it. My wife cannot stand it.

Nirvana: Nevermind
A classic album. It will remain long after much newer alternative music has fallen by the wayside.

Sundays: Reading, Writing and Arithmetic
A fun version of the Cranberries (and an earlier version). The lyrics are a little weird but the attitude and sound is entertaining. When I got this album I would play it endlessly. NOTE: Their song "Wild Horses" from another album was used for the prom scene on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I also hear them at grocery stores occassionally.

Thomas Dolby: Golden Age of Wireless
I love this album. I love every song on this album. When I bought the album and listened to it I thought it must have been a greatest hits collection. When I worked at the music store I was talking with Derrick about music I liked. We shared a lot of interests (he gave me a spare Sundays CD). I mentioned Thomas Dolby and we both said "Golden Age of Wireless." I can only remember that happening once before with James Bond novels (Icebreaker is the best, even though Ian Fleming did not write it).

Tom Petty: Full Moon Fever
An album he did without the Heartbreakers, although he has lots of guests on the album. His lyrics are great. A lot of thought and irony. A surprising amount of variety on the album, probably because of the guests.

U2: Joshua Tree
I like a lot of U2 songs, "One" possibly my favorite. (Numb is the best video.) This album is full of great songs. I avoided U2 in the 80's because they were so popular and I was such the rebel. When I got the album I learned why they were so popular.
Link
I found a site which has the lyrics for many popular 80's songs. I include it here so people who want to properly thank Mr. Roboto can do so in Japanese.
