Thrones
THRONES
Thrones are the justice bringers, sometimes called wheels and in the jewish Kabbalah,
chariots or the merkaba (see other names below).
The occult book, the Zohar, ranks wheels above
seraphim, but other sources place them on the same level as the cherubim.
In most hierarchies, they are placed third in the angelic hierarchy. Medieval scholars derived the
Thrones from the prophet Ezekiel's vision. The Thrones wheel around the throne of God - the throne
where the court of Heaven convenes, where the deeds of men are weighted and where judgement is served.
Their role is to inspire confidence in the power of God. They are said to dwell in either the Third
or Fourth Heaven.
They have been called Angels of Pure Goodness, beings of pure humility and they are said to be named
Thrones because the very power of God that emanates to all that is created in the heavens and the
cosmos and the earth "rests" upon the Thrones.
The Thrones are so filled with humility that God carries out his Divine Justice through them. Thrones
are busy dispensing the justice and power of God to the Angelic Court in charge of the cosmos and the
earth.
