After communist North Vietnamese boats attack 2 U.S. Destroyers purposely, the Tonkin Gulf Resolution is passed by congress, allowing U.S. military activeness against North Vietnam.

February 1965
-President Johnson orders continuous bombing of North Vietnam.
-184,300 troops move into South Vietnam before the year ends.

May 1, 1966
-U.S. fires on enemy troops in neutral Cambodia.

June 24, 1966
-U.S. planes begin bombing Hanoi: Capitol of North Vietnam.
-385,300 U.S. troops are in Vietnam by the end of the year.

January-February 1968

The war's most savage fighting takes place during the Tet offensive. North Vietnam attacks  Saigon and other South Vietnam cities.

May 10, 1968

Peace talks begin in Paris for a year with North Vietnam.

October 31, 1968
-Johnson stops all bombing.

July 8, 1969

President Nixon pulls out 543,400 troops.

November 16, 1969

Mylai massacre takes place where 100's of South Vietnam civilians are killed by U.S. soldiers. News of the massacre hits the media causing protests to hit their peak.

April 30, 1970
-
Nixon announces he will move U.S. & South Vietnamese troops into Cambodia to look for hidden North Vietnam troops.

May 4, 1970
-
Kent State University protest becomes riot when National Gaurd comes, 4 students are killed.

December 18, 1972
-
Bombing of North Vietnam resumes.

January 22, 1973
-
Peace treaties signed in Paris, ending the Vietnam War.

March 24, 1973
-Last U.S. troops leave South Vietnam.

April 30, 1975
-South Vietnam surrenders.
