For the worlds out there where the sky is burning.
Where the sea is asleep, and the rivers dream.
People made of smoke and cities made of song.
There is a place for you all without danger.
Somewhere without injustice.
And somewhere where the tea never gets cold.
...The most happening place in all of time and space...
The Doctor Who Diner

In the year 1963 some folks involved with the BBC wanted
to create an exciting children's television program
with some manner of educational
content.
The result was Doctor Who, a series of stories about a
mysterious old man who could travel through time and space
in a funky police box that he called a TARDIS.
It was a very low budgeted program, although its strong-point
was it's unique imagination, AND its constant cliff-hangers.
The television show became incredibly popular, and is
still considered to be the longest-running science-fiction
series ever.
The enigmatic Doctor (who has no identifiable name besides "The Doctor") is a "Time Lord", which is supposedly a royal class of alien from some world that resembles a very scholarly ritualistic version of Earth. He is a renegade on the run, with several regeneratable lives, exploring the galaxy on his own terms. In a stolen TARDIS, he travels through various places ever fulfilling his eternal child-like curiosity, and always helping in the fight against evil. The Doctor travels from place to place, finding trouble and getting into odd adventures. A scholar, a slacker, a rebel, and always a hero, The Doctor travels from place to place, interfering with people's lives and always uncovering some horrid evil only to stop it and save humanity and the forces of goodness in the end. Through the rotating cast of about 30 companions, and 7 personal incarnations of The Doctor himself*, the show went on for about 26 years, until it was put on hold for quite some time. Several years later, they decided to tried to try to bring it back in 1996 with a big budgeted movie-length episode. Unfortunately, there hasn't really been any serious Doctor Who on television since then. |

The more clever among you might have noticed a slight change in the appearance of the TARDIS interior from the latest days of the show before it's halt.
From a humble white room with no special decorations... (Besides the pretty circles on the walls)
No, The Doctor would never do any of those things. But he had to have made some money by doing something. Another clue offered by the high-budgeted episode is that a good amount of time has passed, as The Doctor looks much more aged.
From young stressed-out Seventh Doctor...
I think the greatest clue lies in the final words of the seventh Doctor in his touching closing speech...
Where the sea is asleep, and the rivers dream. People made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there is danger. Somewhere there is injustice. And somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on Ace, we've got work to do. Clearly, The Doctor is assessing the state of universe and what it needs. A safe and just place for everyone regardless of where they're from or what they're made of where the tea never gets cold. A sophisticated intergalactic diner filled with food, entertainment, and harmony. A diner that can travel at will to any place and any time. A diner that's he most happening place in all of time and space. This diner is of course The Doctor Who Diner, which means that after the series was put on halt, the Doctor limited his adventures, and he and his companion Ace took the actions required to convert his TARDIS into The Doctor Who Diner. After The Doctor said his touching closing speech he and his companion Ace decided that they'd try something more ambitious than looking for trouble. He had recently taken care of Davros* (and his black lip-drool problem) and the Daleks*. He even took care of the Cybermen*, and some other less-popular villains. With most of his adversaries out of the picture, it was time for him to kick back and fulfill some dreams of his. He opened up a successful restaurant within his rather spacious TARDIS - The Doctor Who Diner.
It is surprising that The Doctor never tried this before,
the benefits of a TARDIS Diner are plain to see!
Also, The Doctor has many friends that he could bring along to help him in his venture. He knows bartenders, stewardesses, Shakespeare, and a whole bunch of interesting people to perform for his patrons. He could even find his past incarnations and have them check the place out when they're not busy fighting evil. Some would even perform on his newly made stage. For an outside sign, he used the incredibly cheesy neon-light "Doctor Who" design from the 1980s logo. Think of how fancy THAT looks ontop of that police box. |
