Course Description: This course is a survey of the major themes in European history from approximately 1450 to the present.  The course encompasses not only major political and diplomatic developments, but also economic, intellectual, social, and cultural history.  As students master course content they will focus upon the development of such skills as writing, critical thinking, and oral argumentation.  It is a particular goal of the course that students acquire a more sophisticated understanding of the history writing process and the many problems encountered in man's recreation and interpretation of the past.  Upon completion of the course students should be prepared to take the College Board's AP European History exam. (see below)       

Texts & Readings:

A.P. European History Exam:  The College Board Advanced Placement program offers high school students the opportunity to earn potential college credit by scoring well on exams offered each May.  One of the course goals is to help prepare interested students for the Advanced Placement European History Exam to be administered on May 10, 2002.  

A.P. European History Exam Format

80 Multiple Choice Questions (55 minutes)
1 Document-Based Question (1 hour)
2 Thematic Essays (35 minutes for each)
