"... a feast for life and a greater feast for death"
"The length of thy longing shall be the strength of its glory: He that lives long & desires death is ever the King among the Kings."
- Liber AL
Whenever I read certain parts of Liber Al I am reminded of my friend Ebony
Anpu. The part about living long & desiring death applies to Ebony more than anyone
I've ever met. Although he died when he was 48 this was a long time for him to
have lived because of his severe asthma. Despite the asthma, while I knew him
he smoked tobacco. By adopting the name "Anpu" he was identifying with Anubis,
the lovely jackal headed deity of death & magick in Egypt.
"...Thrill with the joy of life & death! Ah! thy death shall be
lovely: whoso seeth it shall be glad. Thy death shall be the seal of the promise of our agelong
love. Come! lift up thine heart & rejoice! We are one; we are none."
Ebony's greater feast was on May 7th, 1999. No one human witnessed his death, so only the
Gods know how lovely it was. He was found at home killed by the asthma
which constantly threatened his life. This web page was put online Sept 6th, 1999 in honor
of Ebony's lesser feast (his birthday).
Despite (or because of?) his lust for death Ebony created volumes of
original material. His specialties were Time Magick, Egyptology, and of course
Death. When Ashton found out that Ebony had died he asked "Who buries the
undertaker?" I can't answer that question, but I can throw in some stories along the way.
The purpose of this website is to share a spark of Ebony's
creations with you. If any readers have stories to add then send email.
