QUESTION:

I was wondering if you could help me out on a problem I am facing since I
arrived in the U.K. The question I want to ask the Alim is, if it is
permissible to eat HALAL FOOD in a restuarant where ALCOHOL is being
SERVED. For instance, is it O.K. to eat a vegetarian pizza in Pizza Hut
where they serve alcohol to those who wish to have it?

ANSWER:

Bismihi Ta'ala

It is alright to eat in a restaurant where alcohol is served provided no
alcohol is served on the table where you are seated. Moreover, there
should be no possibility that you could be attracted to the alcohol.

Since I had asked Sayyid Fadil Milani the question a long time ago, I
cannot recall exactly as to whether this was a fatwa from Ayat. al-Khu'i
or not. If I recall correctly, I had asked a general ruling on the issue
and he merely gave me a response without specifying the mujtahid he was
quoting from.

And Allah knows best.

Yours in Islam

Liyakatali Takim
