QUESTION:

I am a muqalid of Agha Seestani

My question is about the Tawaf during Umrah.

I went to Umrah in the month of Ramadhan, before that I acquired the
knowledge of all the things which are necessary in Umrah from the books
which are available to me. But My friend who went to hajj last year, he
advised me to make tawaf in such a way that Maqam-Ibrahim (A.S.) also can
be included. ( He has done Hajj with a reputed Hajj Group of Shia's from
Kuwait. ). This time in Ramadhan it was a big crowd at Kaa'batallah so I
did it because of rush during the tawaf. Next time I did one more Umrah
after the Ramadhan IT was not so much crowded but literally I did tawaf
including Maqam-e-Ibrahim also then one of my relative adviced me not to
do that. When I search in the books I came to know that I did wrong.  But
still the books I have referred does'nt give in full the method of
performing Tawaf. 

Please explain in details how we should perform the Tawaf. All the
obligations for it. 


ANSWER:

Before explaining how to do the tawaf, there are certain things to be
observed before the tawaf:

1) Wudhu (or if necessary ghusl) is wajib for wajib tawaf

2) The body and clothes to be tahir

3) Men to be circumcised before tawaf

4) Private parts to be fully covered during tawaf

5) Niyyat for tawaf has to be done when commencing the tawaf - this will
vary according to the whether hajj or umra is being performed.

6) The starting & ending point for each circuit is the black stone

7) During the tawaf, the Ka'ba must remain to your left. Do not turn your
left shoulder away from the Ka'ba

8) Do not pass between the Ka'ba and Hijre Ismail during the tawaf otherwise
that particular circuit will be invalid. It is ahwat (precationary) not to
even touch the hijre Isma'il during the tawaf

9) Area of tawaf is between the Ka'ba and Maqame Ibrahim. Tawaf must be
performed within this area (about 40 feet). You may only go beyond this
radius if it is too crowded and impossible to perform the tawaf within this
radius.

10) Around the Ka'ba, near the foundation, there are small supporting walls.
Do not touch them during the tawaf.
