Also, what significance, if any, is there in getting married to a syed assuming that all the proposals are of the same calibre? Should the presence of a beard be considered as a criteria? Answer: In considering proposals, the family should look at kuf' (compatability), whether the boy performs the religius duties, observes the rules of shari'a, has the etiquettes required of a Muslim and is a proper match for the girl in terms of education, akhlaq and financial stability.
