QUESTION:

With all this talk about men going to Jumah, I am wondering if it is
compulsory for women to attend jumah.  I have heard that it is not if
they have children to take care of or their husbands to take care of (ie: 
preparing dinner etc), or housework etc.  It is said that this is their
prayer.  Is this true?  Do I, as a woman, have to go to jumah to fulill
my obligation or is it optional ? 


ANSWER:


Ayatullah Sayyid Ali al-Husayni Seestani (Islamic Laws, Mas`alah 741,
p.143) says that it is not wajib for women to attend the Jumu'ah (Friday
prayers). This exemption is not confined to married women or mothers but
to all females.
