Fee Amaanillah, Akil Karim Moderator - 'Aalim Network ---------- Forwarded message ---------- QUESTION: Salamun alaykum, I have referred to the risala of Ayatullah Sistani and also referred to the previous answers given to related questions. It is after doing so that I ask the following question: Background: =========== My normal place of residence is in City A which is where my normal place of work is. Occasionally I have to travel to different cities for varying periods of time, never exceeding ten days in a row, and therefore I pray shortened prayers. I understand this is the correct method. However, recently, I have been asked to go to my company's office in City B where there is a shortage of staff. I still reside in City A driving up to City B every working day (i.e not weekends) and then driving back every night. As before, occasionally, I still have to travel to other cities for a day or so. This relocation is temporary, though lasting a few weeks. I am still a permanent employee of the City A branch and consider that as my base. ======= Do I have to pray shortened prayers when I am in City B during the day? Do I have to pray shortened prayers when I am travelling to other cities (neither A nor B) during this temporary relocation? If it was Ramadan, would I have to/be allowed to fast? ANSWER: You have to say complete prayers in city B and fast in the month of Ramadhan if the recolation lasts for one year or more. Otherwise shorten your prayers. In other cities you have to say Qasr salat. Reference: Al-Fatawa al-Muyassarah according to fatwas of Ayt. Sayyid Ali al-Husayni al-Seestani, pp.400-401. God knows the best.
