Salaams & Duas Ummulbanin Merali - Moderator - 'Aalim Network ******************************************************************************* QUESTION: I have a pressing concern that I cannot find in any risalah. Where I live there is generally a day difference between our observances of the Eids. The Sunni community is very large here and they have lately been having huge Muslim celebrations at the time of Eid. Naturally the children want to participate in these gatherings to be with Muslims and to enjoy the activities. However, I feel that since they are celebrating Eid Ul Adha on Thursday of this week and the Shia community is celebrating it on Friday that my kids cannot go to the earlier celebration. Is there a problem with attending such gatherings if you do not go for prayer but just the socialization? ANSWER: There is no harm or objection to joining the Muslim brothers who are celebrating Eid al Adha on Thursday according to their beliefs. However, they cannot offer Namz of Eid on that day, because according to our practice of moon sighting, Eid al Adha will fall on Friday. Asgharali M.M. Jaffer
