QUESTION:

Is it permissible for a Shia mujtahid or other Shia aalim to practise
taqiyya by hiding his true beliefs from other Shia scholars or the masses,
where he feels there are good reasons for doing so?  If this is permissible,
then what may those good reasons be to allow this to happen?  


ANSWER:

I can not see such circumstances for Taqiyya.

Taqiyya is to conceal one's belief or practice when there is a fear of
losing one's life or honour etc in the presence of adversaries. Taqiyya in
the presence of another Shia Scholar or the masses is something I can not
conceive.
