QUESTION:

Please base the answer to the following question on the fatwa of Ayatullah
Ali Khamene'i:

What is the procedure for terminating a mutah (fixed-term) marriage BEFORE
the time period of the mutah has expired? Can the mutah be terminated by
either the husband or the wife? (Is there a specific formula that must be
recited? Does any portion of the dowry need to be returned?)


ANSWER:

The Mutah can be terminated before the expiry of its agreed duration, by
the husband.

This he will do by gifting away the remaining period to her and thus effect
her release.
