It was fun to do a modern musical, one that had just been revived by the movie. It was a great thing to have some of the audience following along with the songs (as opposed to "Carnival"). And the jokes were fantastic. It was written to be a send-up of B-movies and did a great job. Lots of stupid little one-liners and pointed references... I loved it.
Steph was a wonder to watch in this one, nailing everything every performance. And when this show was over, I understood why she and Beth were crying. I knew why Terry Bayne sat off to the side, thinking his own little thoughts. And I started to dread my senior year.
The main memories of this show center around the Audrey II plant and the kid working it, Jeff Derosier (what a putz!). We had managed to get a 6' long, 3 1/2' tall plant for the final scenes, and it had a hole in the back for people to crawl through when they were "eaten". Jeff sat inside the plant, working the jaws up and down. And he just about got pummelled by the entire cast and crew when he "helped" Steph get through the plant when she was chomped; it seemed more than coincidence that her head was briefly in the crotch of his pants, then he "assisted" her by grabbing her boobs and crotch as she crawled through in her short dress.
Aside from that one, Jeff managed to get a peek at some of the girls in the cast. The Ronettes (the 50's style support singer girls), including Sparrow, Andi, and Amy, had a lot of costume changes and since some were backless, they only wore panties under their costumes. The girls came up to complain that someone had been spying on them change through the hole described in the notes for "Carnival". They had seen eyes peeking through, then heard a crash from the guys' dressing room as the eyes disappeared. The rest of us went downstairs and found Jeff listening to music in the makeup room. No one else was downstairs, everyone but Jeff was accounted for at the time of the incident. He denied it. Lying fuck.
