The Taming of the Shrew

This one was new for me in a lot of ways. Working on Emperor's New Clothes, everyone was buddy-buddy. I never realized there were different friend groups until this point, but some of the cast just wouldn't talk to others unless they had to. I realized I had not yet been claimed by either clique, and made a mental note to avoid it if at all possible. I think I succeeded.

This was my first exposure to Mr. Christiansen's directing, and all I know is that I can not aspire to the perversion in that man's head. Every line had a sexual connotation or Freudian subtext, and we were using props to emphasize it. I don't think it's what Shakespeare had in mind...

Steph Hill became one of my better friends during this show, although she didn't know it. I knew no one, but she went out of her way to say hi to the shy kid and include me. It really helped me to know I had a friend.

I would have to say that the incident which stands out most in my mind on this production was during a performance. Backstage, we had a lot of time in between scenes. Beth Moran decided to try to take a nap, and asked me to wake her up before our scene. Well, we had been goofing off before, poking each other and such, so I gave her a few minutes to doze off and poked her in the ribs. When she found out I woke her up early, she jammed her elbow into my sternum...HARD. I lost my breath, but managed to cover it and maintain my balance, smiling at her the whole time. I'm sure she thought I was just being more of a prick; I just wouldn't give her the satisfaction of knowing that she knocked the wind out of me. 1
