Story of Sri Ramakrishna:  Part 15
Altered State of Consciousness and Evolution of a God Man
A Study based on the life of Sri Ramakrishna

Conclusion

New centers in the brain are opening up - unwanted getting suppressed and some getting stimulated - as happened over centuries when we became human from apes. At that time we had no capacity to understand and document these changes, but the evolution has come to such a wonderful stage where we can predict as well as effect the desired changes by proper sadhana [spiritual discipline]. This should be our attitude of looking at above description. By not opening up our minds to new possibilities - which are proved, as cited above, in the life of Sri Ramakrishna - we are behaving most unscientifically and losing a great opportunity to enjoy the vision of evolution unfolding in front of us.

Only because the word 'religion' is attached to it, should we discard this subject without giving it the due respect it deserves [by undertaking research activities], and should we not try to establish the truth or otherwise in it? If after proper research we fail to find any substance in it, it will be all right to say an end to all this, but before that we may be labeled as scientific fanatics and a great loss may accrue to humanity as a whole.

Scientists should pay an urgent attention towards this. As mentioned in certain quarters, we should try to make conscious efforts to acquire the supremacy of mind over the grosser matter - the body. This will free the mind from the limitations of one body, and, if required, necessary body changes will be brought about to conform to the needs of enlargement of the scope for the activity of mind. Birth of a new race of the human beings - we may call it as -Superhuman or Divine- is on the card of evolutionary progress. The truth of this we see in the life of Sri Ramakrishna. Changes in his body and mind during the sadhana period are so unique that, in the words of Swami Saradananda:

"One is amazed to study the physical changes of the Sri Ramakrishna under the influence of his strong emotions and has to remark that his bodily changes have gone beyond the facts so far discovered by Physiology and indicate the beginning of a wonderful revolution in it"

Let us conclude, in the words of Swami Vivekananda:

"Each science must have its own methods. I could preach you thousands of sermons, but they would not make you religious, until you practised the method. These are the truths of the sages of all countries, of all ages, of men pure and unselfish, who had no motive but do 'good' to the world. They all declare that they have found some truth higher than what the senses can bring to us, and they invite verification. They ask us to take up the method and practise honestly, and then, if we do not find this higher truth, we will have the right to say there is no truth in the claim, but before we have done that, we are not rational in denying the truth of their assertions."

"If there has been one experience in this world in any branch of knowledge, it absolutely follows that that experience has been possible millions of times before, and will be repeated eternally. Uniformity is the rigorous law of nature, what once happened can happen always." Swami Vivekananda, C. W., Vol. I, p. 127
