MONDAY, APRIL 6, 1998

Meron Wondwosen, Milton McGriff, and Allan Nosworthy were arrested at 5 pm today in 117 Beardshear Hall at Iowa State University on charges of criminal trespassing. The September 29th Movement had been promised a meeting date with Dr. Jischke (President of Iowa State University) if we met the administration's two conditions.  These two conditions were:

1. Provide a detailed agenda of our issues (we have had a detailed agenda available to the administration since September 22, 1997 and have given them copies of the agenda several times since September of 1997)

2. To meet with Dr. Thomas Hill to first discuss the issues with him

The September 29th Movement complied to both of these requests by providing an agenda to Dr. Hill and Dr. Jischke on April 1, 1998. Dr. Thomas Hill failed to provide The September 29th Movement with this date or even guarantee any future meeting with the President Jischke.

The Movement is disappointed with the administration's ongoing attempts to stall the resolution of these issues. These arrests are the clearest possible illustration of this pattern.  Three white students (GSB senators) asked to meet with the President Jischke and were granted a meeting. Three Black students waited for a promised meeting and were arrested and escorted from the building.

Because these students are committed to resolving these issues they will return to 117 Beardshear Hall tomorrow at 4:00pm, to wait for a meeting, facing possible arrest.  The September 29th Movement is asking you to come out and support us.
