Politics can be interpreted as a parrot unfortunate enough to swallow a clock.
The explanation is as follows. The parrot's name is Polly. The clock he swallowed ticks in his tummy. Thus, from the outside, Polly ticks. Politics, is it not?
I got this from my A-level maths teacher, Paul "PW" Williams, who always looks for interesting words. After reading Peter Pan by James Barrie, I suspect that he got the idea from the ticking crocodile who always chased Captain Hook.
Any follow-ups, comments or objections to the anecdote?
